MHS Plays Today

Moncton High School’s Purple Knights will play their final game in their first season of Canadian Football when they travel to Harkins Academy of Newcastle, today, Nov. 10th

The Knights held an intersquad game Oct. 13th, and then entertained the Lancaster Ti-Cats on Oct. 20th in front of the largest crowd in 10 years ** (Note: previous crowds must have watched their earlier rugby football games) ** They played their shortest and coldest game of the year at Barnhill Field, Saint John, vs Lancaster, and fell victim to the oldest trick in the books, the “sleeper” play. They then took on Harkins at the MHS Athletic Field, Church St . , and put on their best offensive and defensive effort in front of an appreciative crowd. ** (No date for this game vs Harkins, but most likely Sat. Nov. 3rd )**

MHS Knights Down Harkins 19-12

Moncton High School wound up their first season in Canadian Football action with a 19-12 exhibition win over Harkins Academy Blue Jackets in Newcastle Saturday.

Note: In 1962 Moncton High also played games against the Mount Allison University Junior Varsity team and Prince of Wales College of Charlottetown.

Many thanks to Rod MacKenzie of Moncton for his research into the early years of high school football.
